Inside Spectrum Brands

We’re proud to make a donation to benefit life-saving programming and homeless people amid COVID-19 pandemic. Spectrum Brands has donated $100,000 to non-profit organization New York City Relief, along with more than 6,000 bottles of its recently developed Cutter™ hand sanitizer.

New York City Relief is dedicated to serving those who struggle with homelessness through a variety of resources. Funds from Spectrum Brands will support New York City Relief programming, which includes providing essentials like food and hygiene kits to the homeless and connecting them with services including housing, rehab, employment and more.

“COVID-19 doesn’t choose who it impacts, and we know many are hurting, especially those who are struggling with homelessness,” said David Maura, Executive Chairman and CEO at Spectrum Brands. “I have personally witnessed the great work New York City Relief does through my involvement with the organization in the past. The work they do is hard, but it is essential and it truly transforms lives. On behalf of Spectrum Brands, I am proud that we are able to lend a helping hand with Cutter Brand through both a monetary and product donation of our new Cutter hand sanitizer, an essential item that has become scarce amid this global pandemic.”

Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Spectrum Brands has worked to identify ways to lend support to non-profit assistance groups as well as those working on the front lines. In April, Spectrum Brands announced that its Blacksburg, Va., manufacturing plant had shifted production to make hand sanitizer, a much-needed product during this unprecedented pandemic.

Since then, the organization has supplied Cutter hand sanitizer to all of its U.S. employees as well as its 15 U.S. facilities. In addition, the company has donated Cutter hand sanitizer to local organizations within the communities in which Spectrum Brands has operations, including the St. Louis Area Foodbank, the Northwest Arkansas Foodbank and Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Va., among several other organizations.

“When this all started, we saw a huge spike in demand for services,” said Juan Galloway, President and CEO of New York City Relief. “With donations like Cutter hand sanitizer from Spectrum Brands, we’re able to ease the strain on resources and funding, ensuring those who need support get it.”

Cutter® mosquito and tick repellent products have been protecting families for over 50 years with some of the leading repellents in the U.S. The brand’s latest product, Cutter hand sanitizer, is currently available to consumers for purchase online at essential retailers.
