Cutter® Starts Producing and Donating Hand Sanitizer During Covid-19 Crisis

April 4, 2020

Hats off to our Home and Garden business unit! In two short weeks, our Blacksburg, Virginia team formulated and pivoted manufacturing to produce hand sanitizer, a much-needed product during this unprecedented pandemic. The team then began supplying the hand sanitizer to all 15 Spectrum Brands facilities and offices across the U.S. to promote the safety of the organization’s employees.

In addition to supplying hand sanitizer to employees and facilities, Cutter™ brand will donate hand sanitizer to local organizations across the communities in which Spectrum Brands has operations. Cutter® mosquito and tick repellent products have been protecting families for over 50 years as one of the leading repellent brands in the U.S.

“It’s a natural extension of the brand portfolio to expand the Cutter™ line beyond insect protection to fight germs as well,” said Steve Schwallie, Division Vice President of Marketing at Spectrum Brands. “We are pleased to be able to move into this segment and provide these products for our community partners.”

While the team continues to identify community partners, Carilion Clinic, a not-for-profit health care organization based in Roanoke, Va., and the St. Louis Area Foodbank are among the first organizations to receive Cutter™ hand sanitizer donations. The St. Louis Area Foodbank will distribute the donated sanitizers to its network and use them within its facility.

“We are so grateful for our ongoing partnership with Cutter™ brand and for this donation of hand sanitizers,” said Meredith Knopp, President and CEO for the St. Louis Area Foodbank. “Proper sanitation is critical for us to continue serving those in need in the St. Louis community. Cutter™ brand has been a longtime partner of ours, and this donation will go a long way – for our network and the individuals in need of assistance in our community.”

Cutter™ hand sanitizer will also be available to consumers in the coming weeks.

Our innovative sales and marketing teams are establishing high-profile relationships and sponsorships around the globe! The latest was a partnership between the EUKANUBA France team and La Grande Odyssée. (Spectrum Brands owns the Eukanuba brand in Europe.)

La Grande Odyssée is THE annual event of the dog sled race in Europe and the most demanding stage race in the world in a unique alpine setting. This year, 40 mushers and their 300 dogs came from all over Europe to the stunning landscapes of Savoie Mont Blanc for a 12-day sled race. The event is famous for professionals and more than 50,000 spectators who come to assist to a unique experience, in 20 ski resorts in the Alps.

For the very first time, EUKANUBA partnered with La Grande Odyssée to create a special event during the event: The 1st EUKANUBA TROPHY! A 2-dayrace within the long race dedicated to young mushers who want to test their capacities as well as their dogs under real conditions. The EUKANUBA TROPHY was won by Antoine Sement, who took part in La Grande Odyssée for the first time ever: a future champion is born!

We’re happy to say that we’ve had another fantastic outcome during our nationwide annual volunteer day. More than 250 employees donated over 1,000+ hours of service to their local communities during our 2019 Day of Service. We supported various organizations across the country that are near and dear to our heart including the Clean Lakes Alliance, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Gateway Greening. Between our six locations, employees were able to:

  • Clear over one mile of invasive species and brush from Pheasant Branch Creek Corridor and half an acre at Stricker’s Pond to protect Dane County’s Yahara watershed.
  • Sort and pack more than 22,000 pounds of food for local Lake Forest and Miami families.
  • Revitalize Grayson County Shelter through painting, tree trimming, mowing and trash removal.
  • Weed 650 feet of plant beds, add 500 feet of mulch and plant 350 feet of new plants to revitalize St. Louis downtown area.

To our employees: a HUGE thank you for your continued support of our community engagement efforts. This is another shining example of servant leadership in action! We’re so proud of the hard work, dedication, and time that our employees are so willing to give.

July 16, 2019

When the Middleton office had a plethora of replacement coffee pots on hand, our employee Laura Voss sprang into action. She packed up 25 of the remaining pots and donated them to a friend. This friend just happens to be a teacher who used the coffee pots for a creative project for her class. The students were studying environmental factors. This was a perfect opportunity for them to learn how plants grow and to then have a beautiful flower to bring home to their families. Great idea, Laura!
